History of KU-ORCAS

Kansai University, which traces its origins to the famed Chinese academy Hakuen-Shoin, established the Institute of Oriental and Occidental Studies in 1951; since then it has played a dynamic role in promoting Asian Studies. In 2007, the university established the Graduate School of East Asian Culture. It then set up the Society for Cultural Interaction in East Asia through the Global CEO program’s ICIS initiative by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). Then, it started building digital archives through CSAC initiative of MEXT’s Supported Program for the Strategic Research Foundation at Private Universities scheme. KU-ORCAS will continue such undertakings with renewed spirit.
